Sunday Classes

Where Guidance Begins taught by Ustadh Ubaydullah Evans. Join us each Sunday from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm as we discover the Sirah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Tuesday Classes

Ustadh Ubaydullah Evans leads us in discussion on a variety of topics in response to your questions each Tuesday evening from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm.

Student Group Visits

Student group presentations are hosted at The Islamic Reading Room Chicago, typically on Fridays, and can be scheduled with Managing Director, Umar Ali, to learn about Islam from the viewpoint of a practing Muslim and observe the Friday prayer services and sermon.

Offsite Presentations

Offsite group presentations can be scheduled with Managing Director, Umar Ali, to learn about Islam from the viewpoint of a practing Muslim.

Mission

Provide accurate basic information about Islam and Muslims to the broader society. Empower Muslims through educational programs and workshops to serve as their own points of Da'wah (inviting others to Allah) in their respective circles of family, friends, and colleagues.

Company Overview
The Institute of Islamic Information and Education (IIIE) is dedicated to providing accurate information about Islamic beliefs, history and civilization from authentic sources. IIIE was established in Chicago, Illinois in 1985 with the comprehensive project of conveying the message of Islam to everyone in North America. IIIE is a leading provider of brochures and other educational publications to individuals and institutions throughout North America. At our "Reading Room" facilty we host regular weekly and monthly informational and educational sessions for Muslims and non-Muslims to learn about Islam and Muslims.

Our Team

Our goal is to always provide an exceptional level of service, and we aim for lasting partnerships with our clients and to have fun while doing all this.
UMAR ALIManaging Director
Umar Ali is the Managing Director of The Islamic Reading Room Chicago and oversees the day to day operations, maintains financial records, and teaches clasess in elementary Arabic and understaing the Qur'an. Umar was born in Chicago to Dr. Amir Ali, a Muslim immigrant from India, and Mary Ali, a native of Iowa. Umar spent several years of his childhood in Saudi Arabia before returning to Chicago. After the passing of his parents, Umar chose to leave his career in financial trading to honor the passion of his parents and serving The Islamic Reading Room Chicago. Umar is married with six children and a die hard Chicago Cubs fan.
USTADTH UBAYDULLAH EVANSResident Scholar
Ustadh Ubaydullah Evans is Scholar In-Residence for the Islamic Reading Reading Room Chicago and the Executive Director of the American Learning Institute for Muslims (ALIM). Ustadh Ubaydullah is also an instructor with the Ta’leef Collective and the Inner-City Muslim Action Network. After converting to Islam in high school, he studied at Chicagoland’s Institute of Islamic Education (IIE), in Tarim, Yemen, and Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, where he was the first African American to graduate from its Shari’a program. Ustadh Ubaydullah is married with three children.
ROD WESTWOODSocial Media and Information Techology
Rod Westwood maintains The Islamic Reading Room Chicago's website, assists with social media outreach, collaborating on other technology related projects, as well as helping to coordinate special events and presentations. Rod embraced Islam in 2013 and took up studies in the Arabic language and Islamic theology part time. Rod recently relocated to Arizona and continues to pursue his education in Islam. He is also active in volunteering and currently serves various organizations including Ta'leef Collective and The Islamic Center of Flagstaff. Rod's passions include event planning, food, and woodworking.
